McCOMB RESEARCH SEMINAR DAY
Friday 13TH November 2009
CTEC, UWA
The McComb Foundation's Annual Multidisciplinary Research Seminar, opened by Professor James Semmens from Population Health at Curtin University was held on Friday 13th November at CTEC, UWA.
The seminar programme was rich and varied covering a range of topics from clinical care to basic science and education.
Professor Semmens began the day by demonstrating the use of data linkage for research into health care, showing us the opportunities of mining the rich data sets. Using these data sets to link into the burns data sets he put into context the history of data linkage with an eye to the future.
The translation and dissemination of knowledge gleaned from data linkage projects can be applied to inform health policy and improve clinical care with evidence as outlined by our final speaker Janine Duke.
WA's Chief Scientist, Professor Lyn Beazley, treated us to an inspirational address driving home the importance and power of science in our community at every level. We thank her for her attendance and enthusiasm.
Thank you to all our speakers for their excellent presentations which stimulated great discussions, many of which are continuing.
